A specialist website is a term coined by website broker Kris Tabetando which describes a website that requires specialized knowledge to operate the website.
For example, a webmaster would need specialized knowledge about how games are created and distributed to operate an online game portal. The website owner, a member of his staff, or a contractor must have this knowledge in order to successfully run the website.
A specialist website is the opposite of a generalist website which does not require specialized knowledge to operate the website.
