Application Programming Interface

Application Programming Interface or API in its simplest form specifies how different software components should interact with each other.

For example, a website developer can integrate outside software components into a website. A website publisher with social media accounts at Twitter or Facebook can hire a developer to integrate his social media feeds onto his website. In this way, the posts to his social media accounts are automatically displayed on his website to website visitors without them having to go to the social media sites to view them. Using API in this way can keep visitors on a publisher’s website.
