Exact Keyword Matching

Exact Keyword Matching in search engine advertising refers to an advertiser selecting an exact keyword that must be used in a search before the advertiser’s ad is displayed to a user. This enables the advertiser bidding on these keywords to attract a very targeted audience searching only those exact keywords that the advertiser selects.

For example, for an advertiser selling shirts and selecting exact keywords like cheap shirts or pink shirts, the ad is only displayed if these keywords are searched for exactly as stated. Any other keyword would not trigger the ad to be displayed.

As such, exact keyword matching generally triggers the ad to be displayed fewer times but to a more relevant targeted audience.
