A Certified Public Accountant or C.P.A. is a designation conferred upon an accountant by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The accountant must meet certain work experience requirements and pass a rigorous exam in order to receive this designation.

In Canada, the equivalent designation is Chartered Accountant or CA.
